Introduction
The Key Laboratory of Applied Surface and Colloid Chemistry (Shaanxi Normal University), Ministry of Education (KLASCC, MOE) was approved for the construction project in February, 2007 and the construction plan passed the examination of the panel experts of the MOE in July of the same year. The KLASCC passed the acceptance inspection of MOE in August, 2009. It has all passed the evaluation of MOE in 2013, 2019 and 2024.
The KLASCC adheres to the application-oriented focus in the field of surface and colloid chemistry research and the major needs of discipline frontier, national and regional economic and social development as the guidance, it constructs interdisciplinary integration platform. Centering on the key scientific and technical issues of the research areas such as Sensitive Interface Materials and Devices, Creation and Application of Functional Soft Matter, Interface Chemistry and Energy Materials, Surface Interface Chemistry in Catalytic Processes, the laboratory carries out whole-chain study from basis and innovation to industrial application, outputs high-quality results, provides qualified and specialized personnel, thus endeavors to build the key laboratory as a talent cultivation and scientific research base of applied surface and colloid chemistry which will has an important impact at home and abroad.
The laboratory places great emphasis on talent development and team building. It currently has 78 full-time research staff (including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 52 senior researchers, and 25 associate senior researchers) and 3 full-time administrative staff. Among the research staff, 92% have overseas study experience of at least one year. A total of 44 individuals have received provincial or ministerial-level talent titles or honors, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Teaching Master, 1 National Outstanding Teacher, 4 scholars under the Thousand Talents Plan (1 long-term, 3 young), 5 Yangtze River Scholars (1 distinguished professor, 4 young scholars), 3 recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 7 recipients of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund, 2 recipients of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program" as Young and Middle-Aged Leading Scientific and Technological Innovation Talents, 1 recipient of the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, 9 recipients of the New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, and 18 provincial-level talents such as recipients of the Shaanxi Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund and the "Hundred Talents Program".
The laboratory has 12,500 m² of experimental space (including 1,000 m² dedicated to a technology transfer platform). Together with the affiliated school, the laboratory co-established a large-scale scientific instrument sharing platform, which houses 87 large-scale instruments and equipment with a total value of 141.58 million RMB. Among these, 36 pieces of equipment are worth over 1 million RMB each, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, field emission transmission electron microscopes, X-ray photoelectron spectrometers, laser confocal Raman spectrometers, and high-resolution mass spectrometers. The platform is also equipped with full-time technical service and management personnel, providing strong support for scientific research and talent cultivation.
